Banana Bread Latte
Description
A creamy, spiced espresso drink with banana-bread flavors. Made with homemade banana simple syrup that captures the essence of banana bread without actual bread.
Ingredients
Banana Simple Syrup
- 1 ripe banana, mashed (about ½ cup)
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Latte
- 1-2 shots espresso (about 2-4 oz)
- 1-2 tablespoons banana simple syrup
- 4-6 oz steamed milk (or milk alternative)
- Optional: whipped cream, cinnamon sprinkle
Prep and Review
Make the Banana Simple Syrup
- In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, and bring to a boil
- Stir until sugar dissolves and mixture is at a boil. Reduce temp to simmer.
- Add mashed bananas, cinnamon, and nutmeg over medium heat. (optionally add vanilla and allspice)
- Simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and let steep for 10 minutes.
- Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove banana solids.
- Store in a clean glass bottle in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Prepare the Latte
- Pull 1-2 shots of espresso (about 2-4 oz) using espresso machine.
- In a latte cup, add desired amount of banana syrup.
- Pour in the hot espresso and stir to combine.
- Steam milk to hot foamy consistency (140-150°F).
- Pour steamed milk over espresso mixture.
- Top with foam and optional whipped cream.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired.
Serves 1. Adjust syrup amount to taste - start with 1 tablespoon for mild flavor.
